About Fred Houston

Hello, my name is Fred Houston.
I am married to the former Shirley Wilson, we have 2 daughters, 6 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.  We have lived at our present address since October of 1972, but Ellsworth has been a part of my life since I was very young.  I have always farmed, but also had to work off the farm.  I spent 25 years at Wean United in Austintown, starting as a laborer on midnights and advancing to plant manager.  My wife and I bought a company in June 2006 that manufactured roll polishers and operated it until February of 2024.  While my daughters were in school, I spent 12 years on the Western Reserve School Board.

I have been your trustee since 2014.  We have seen a lot of changes to the township in that time.  While I have been a trustee, we started a budget for the fire and EMS so they knew what they had to spend.  We have chipped and sealed all township roads, installed air conditioning in the Fire Hall, enclosed the pavilion so we can use it year-round.  We have purchased property west of our cemetery for future cemetery growth.  I have been working on that project since the beginning.  The most important issue was the residents giving us the approval to work on getting fire and EMS coverage 24/7.  Although we are not to having it at 100% coverage, things have changed since we passed the levy.  The big change is the number of other departments that are doing the same as we have.  There are only so many paramedics and EMT personnel available and we find ourselves competing for them.  I am very proud of our fire and Ems and look forward to the future.  To see more of the things we have accomplished, please visit www.ellsworthohio.com.  I can assure you that I have done my best to make sure that we get the most out of every tax dollar spent.  I have tried to make it a point to listen to residents and their concerns.
